Malpais Costa Rica, is found on the very south-western tip of the Nicoya Peninsula - just north of the country's first-ever protected area...
The Cabo Blanco Absolute Reserve.
A small surfing and fishing village, it shares the same stretch of coastline with Santa Teresa, an area offering some of the most magnificent displays of setting suns, on the planet.
Interestingly, the name "Malpais" - translates to English as "Bad Country". But from experience, and from some beautiful photographs as well - it's one place that in a very good way...
...certainly does not live up to its name! :-)

One my favorite things about Malpais - is the small road from Cabuya, connecting east and west sides of the peninsula.
During the dry season (there are several rivers than can make the journey a bit rough!)...
Traveling to and from either coast - makes for an exhilarating off-roading quad or motorcycle experience!
